What is Brownsea and how does it compare to SFBAC-NYLT? |
| Boy Scouts of America, as part of its effort to provide consistent training with consistent names, has decided that all NYLT courses should drop any nickname, such as Brownsea, Silver Bear, Muir, and many others, and just use NYLT and the Council's name. This is similar to the long-standing tradition of having one course name for Woodbadge, the adult equivalent of NYLT. |
| Independent of the name change, the San Francisco Bay Area Council (SFBAC) has maintained and will continue to maintain the same high standards of training for its staff as it has since 1978 when the Council first offered a Brownsea course. |
| The current NYLT curriculum has been taught by SFBAC since 2005, the first year that National introduced the current syllabus. |
| The latest name change is not the first name change that the course has seen. Originally called Brownsea-Double Two, the course has evolved to meet the leadership training needs of the Scouts. Called just Brownsea, Brownsea-Double Two, Brownsea 22, Brownsea-JLT and most recently Brownsea-NYLT, the underlying thread for all has been to provide the highest quality leadership training available to Boy Scouts |
